Connecting Apple Pencil for iPad 2018

I have been trying to connect my Apple Pencil to my iPad 2018 but it doesnt seem to want to connect. When I first plug it in, it appears under the "My Devices" for a second before going to the "Other Devices". I tried restarting my iPad, Bluetooth and replugging the pencil but nothing seems to help. On rare occasions it would stay under "My Devices" but it would remain unconnected and when I try to connect it, it says to make sure the pencil is turned on and in range. This problem also happened to another iPad that I had which this pencil had previously managed to pair with but now it can't seem to pair with both of them. I have updated both to iOS 12.2 (my previous one was not updated but it didn't seem to help with the pairing after updating it to iOS 12.2)

Based on what you're describing, I'd schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and show it to them. They may need to replace the pencil.
