If the battery in the Magic Mouse 2 no longer works, does that mean a new mouse?

Eager to learn if one must buy a new wireless mouse if the Magic Mouse 2 no longer works.

Yes. The battery is not user-replaceable. I would make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service. If you need to find an Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple. Also, see How to find your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) or Distributor (AAD). Perhaps it can be repaired for less than the cost of a replacement.
