My son is studying in Japan for several months, so when he arrived, he put a SIM card in his iphone, and chose a plan to have service while he's there. All good. My husband is able to text with him, but I am not. We all have iphones, if that makes a difference. I feel like it's something in my settings??
Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions??

I tried each one that I hadn't tried already...as it turned out, I had to go in to his contact info and specifically select "message", then choose his temporary Japanese #. That came up as imessage, and now we're able to text. I don't know why my husband and daughter didn't have to specify a # when they texted him without a problem.

In addition to what deggie said about deleting the contact, delete any message threads that you currently have with him, reset your network settings (which will also cause you to have to re-enter your wi-fi passwords again), and then try to message him and see if it goes as an iMessage (blue). Then create his contact again after that message goes through successfully.
Do you and your husband have the same wireless carrier? What happens when you text husband instead, is it blue or green?
What happens when you try to text him? I'm guessing that you are all using iMessage, if that is the case, are you connected to cellular data or wi-fi? It requires an internet connection.
What others said. Can your text you? But have your son check things out on his end, not blocking you by mistake, or something.
My imessage is on, but my message is green (text) when I send it to him, not blue. When my husband texts him, his messages are blue - imessage. I'm confused....

Hi. Yes, same wireless carrier (AT&T), all blue texts between us. We can be together, and he'll be texting back and forth with our son in Tokyo, no problem, and mine don't go through.
Delete the contact for your son and enter it again.
