how to connect my guitar with macbook?

Since all the posts I found on this issue are relatively old, please let me ask some advice:

Which is the easiest way to connect my jazz/electric guitar with my MacBook?

I have both Garageband and MainStage installed.

I use an older (2009) MacBook with High Sierra installed on it.

I found suggestions like iRig, Apogee, but I'm not sure if they are similar or the same..

Recently I used Line 6 - ux1 but the version of "PodFarm" I used is no longer available for download so I need something new.
