Since a couple of months, the download button from my Safari 12.1 disappeared. I have looked in Internet without finding any solution.
There is an old thread (from years ago) about a similar situation that does not work for this version of Safari 12.1
How can I make appear the download button? (next to the web address field)

Does it appear in the Toolbar?
Clearing Download items list will make it disappear.

Do you have set the History to be removed every day?
Safari > Preferences > General
Safari > View > Customize Toolbar
Drag the default set into the toolbar.

Latest version of Safari Technology Preview doesn't have the download button until you download anything from web. Once download is taking place and afterwards the button appears and stays put..
What system are you running? In Safari 12.1 I have no download icon in my default set.
Looking at Safari/View/Customize Toolbar, I don't see that option.

Same here, that's odd!
If you click on the Download button and clear the downloads (terminology may be wrong), it should remove itself from the toolbar.
