my iPhone XR earphones are not working/ connecting to my iPhone

My earphones are not working on my iPhone XR. I plug them in but they won't connect/ work. What do i do? I think its my phone settings or my phone all together but i just got it like a month ago.

Does "earphones" actually mean the EarPods with Lightning Connector that came with your iPhone XR?

If so, return to the place where you purchased the iPhone as the EarPods (and connectivity to the iPhone XR) are warrantied.
