Family Sharing, Separate Payment Methods

The way family sharing is set up, it seems more like the payment method is the owner, not the Apple ID. - There are many instances in the world where ownership is not tied to a payment method. Family sharing should follow these examples, there is no rational excuse not to.

Adults each have their own credit card, and belong to a family. Apple. Fix this.

iTunes gift cards is NOT a fix, and if Apple thinks it is there is really something systemically wrong at the company.

This is incorrect.

The "owner" of the content is tied to the Apple ID, not who paid for the content.

Apple's Family Sharing requires the organizer, if they wish to share purchases, be solely responsible for purchases made within the family, and redeemed iTunes Gift Cards is most certainly a way to avoid this.

You misread what I wrote. - the 'owner' seems to be the actual payment method. - I didn't say the owner OF the payment method.

I added an adult with their own Apple ID and payment tied to that ID - all of a sudden MY payment method is being used to pay for their iCloud storage - for their Apple ID - not the Apple ID 'tied to' the payment method for the 'family'. My payment method is being used to pay for iCloud storage that my Apple ID is not tied to - and is not being shared.

Bottom line is sharing purchases (assumed to be tied to an Apple ID) should in no way be affected by the different ways those purchases were made. - it should be irrelevant. - Purchases made on the Apple ID are always the sole responsibility of the owner of the Apple ID.

Using an iTunes gift card to pay for the monthly fee for iCloud storage is the most ridiculous suggestion I have ever heard.
