Can we use Suica in Japan on Apple Watches sold in the U.S.?

For my iPhone X, I can use Suica (e.g. to get on trains and buses, buy things in convenience stores), but I have to have the Japan model of my iPhone X.

Is that also true for the Apple Watch? Is there a special model sold only in Japan that supports Suica?

Apple Watch Series 1, watchOS 5

Did you already read this page - Using Suica on iPhone or Apple Watch in Japan - Apple Support? It says yes, must be purchased in Japan.

I didn't, thanks.

So it won't work with this Series 1 watch I got.

It will work with Series 2 watches purchased in Japan.

And from Series 3 onward it looks like they made it international, so a special Japan-model is not needed.

It sounds interesting. One usage question occurs to me though. With the train wickets the Suica sensor is on your right side. That's awkward for a right-handed person who has their watch on their left hand.

For buses it's probably easy though.

Thanks.
