"Clock" or "Pie Chart" symbol beside iCloud: what does that mean?

Normally when I see this symbol, something is still downloading. So it's a type of status. In this case it's not moving...at all. Is this maybe a signal of how much storage is left?

Hello Larry,

Thanks for reaching out on the Apple Support Communities. I see you are looking for information regarding the symbol you’re seeing next to iCloud. If you’re seeing this symbol next to iCloud Drive in the Finder sidebar on your Mac, you’re correct, that it means that the device and iCloud are syncing data.

You mention that the icon is not moving as it typically does. Be sure to check your internet connection. If you’re able to access all websites and use internet apps as you normally do, the next step is to check the System Status for iCloud Drive here: Apple - Support - System Status. If there are no issues reported, try restarting your Mac and checking again. Let us know the results.

If you’re not seeing the icon next to iCloud Drive in Finder on your Mac, please provide additional details where the icon is located, so myself and other Apple Support Communities members can dig into this further for you.

Enjoy the day!
