How to control kids iPad while driving? Playing movies, shows, etc

Hi, we are mounting our kids iPad on the headrest of the car so that it can be used as a portable movie player on road trips. Is there a way we can remotely (from our own iPhones?) control the iPad to start, stop and switch movies and shows?
