cannot get itune restore to work

I am trying to restore from iTunes. It keeps saying unknown error.

iPhone 7, iOS 12

Same device that was backed up, or a replacement? If a replacement make sure it is updated to the latest build of iOS then try again. See also If your iTunes backup couldn't be completed or you can't restore from a backup - Apple Support.
