My iPad keeps getting hot when using it. Why does this happen?

We're all volunteer users helping other users, so show a little patience.


If the iPad gets hot while not being used, that would could be a cause for concern. But if you are using the iPad, playing videos, streaming music, playing graphic intensive games, it normal for an iPad to get warm. If your iPad is too hot to touch, that's not normal. If it's warm, it is. If it's in a protective case, that can trap heat in as well.


Finally, your iPad has thermal protection built in. If the device determines it's operating at an unsafe temperature it will give you a warning. If you're not getting any warning, it's likely just fine.


Bottom line, if you feel your iPad is not operating within normal operating conditions, schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and let Apple test it.
