The only way to get to the app switcher in order to close apps is by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. Try swiping slowly and hold down until your finger is about halfway up the screen and then release your finger.

Thanks. I found that your finger needs to start at the very bottom of the screen. I wasn’t doing that.

I wasn’t aware that when you finish with an app and you remove from it from the screen by sliding your finger, it is no longer “open” and not using any battery. Are you sure? If you never clear them by swiping up from the bottom and holding to expose all of them, over time every app you have will be in that status. Doesn’t make sense to me. ???
