Mojave: macOS wants to make changes. Enter an administrator's name

Since logging into my iMac this morning, I'm consistently getting the below error message. I've entered the correct Administrator Name and Password over and over and the dialog box won't go away. To troubleshoot, I've tried the following unsuccessfully:

  • Restarted computer
  • Deleted cached keychain folder at: /Macintosh_HD/Users/MY_USER/Library/Keychains/CCEF3361XXXXXXXXXXX
  • Checked and updated permissions to Read/Write Adminstrators on /Library/Keychains
  • Checked and updated permissions to Read/Write Adminstrators on /Library/Keychains/System.keychain

Nothing seems to clear this crazy error in macOS 10.14.4 [18E226]

Does anyone else have this issue or a way to resolve? I appreciate any ideas.

Once you enter the Administrator Name and Password, what happens exactly?

  • Are the name/password accepted? Can you then proceed to perform other operations?
  • Are the name/password rejected? Do you see the request box shake and the request not go away?

If the request box shakes and does not go away, you did not enter the correct Administrator Name and Password. Consider very carefully what that Administrator Name might be. Often, it's a first and last name.
