Adobe Flash Player

I'm very new to Macs and not brilliant tech-wise either so apologies if it's a silly question.

Is the flash player safe to use on my MacBook Air? I was wondering if there's another player that is better suited to Macs?

Yes, it's safe. What matters is if you need it at all. Flash is on the way out and most web sites have updated their content so it's no longer needed to view the site correctly.

If you do need Flash for any sites you routinely visit, make sure to acquire it only from Adobe.

Only if you download it by manually visiting Adobe's website or through the Flash Player pane of System Preferences, and keep it up to date.

A legitimate update notice for it will come from a standalone application or by clicking on a blocked plug-in message. Any other update prompt should be considered a scam.
