Connecting Time Capsule network to AT&T fiber optic Internet

I have a roaming wireless network using the latest Time Capsule ac as my router and 4 of the latest dual-band Airport Expresses (connected via ethernet) in various rooms of my home. AT&T installed their fiber optic network today, using an Arris BGW 210-700 modem that connects to my Time Capsule. Testing speeds directly to the AT&T modem, I get 400Mbps, but when signed into and using my Time Capsule network, the max speed I get in either direction is 95 Mbps. I’m sure there’s a setting or 2 that need to be changed, either on the TC or the Arris, to prevent the two devices from fighting with each other to route my devices & thus slow things down, but I’m unsure about what I need to do. Any help will be much appreciated!

Unfortunately your speed is a direct result of using Airport Express.. they use 100Mbps ports and N wireless.. that means the absolute max speed you can ever attain is right on your test value.. 95Mbps on a good day.

The Time Capsule AC version or even an earlier one has gigabit ports and much faster AC wireless and should achieve 400Mbps if you directly connect to it.. but the Express .. not a hope.

If you want to test the Time Capsule, temporarily power off the 4 AirPort Express devices and connect your computer directly to one of the LAN <--> Ethernet ports on the Time Capsule using an Ethernet cable and run a few speed checks that way.

If the Time Capsule is providing a WiFi network and you want to test the speed of that connection, disconnect the Ethernet cable that you used in the step above and log onto the Time Capsule WiFi network to run a few speed checks that way.
