Same Apple ID for my wife and I - how do I share iCloud storage with her without cross contamination?

I have been using the same Apple ID for both myself and my wife's devices so that she has access to any apps I purchase, but otherwise, I've setup our devices so that we do not get each other's texts, FaceTime calls or photos / videos (My devices presently synchronise with each other, but hers do not - as they have been prevented from doing so in settings).

I have just upgraded my iCloud storage from 50GB to 200GB and want to share the storage with her so that she can have her own iCloud services;

How do I go about this logically without causing cross contamination and ensuring no data loss on her devices?

With this iCloud Storage Share, can her iPhone and iPad now synchronise data between each other?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would recommend that she have her own Apple ID. She can do that and still share your purchases via Family Sharing. See: Family Sharing - Apple Support

She could then also share your 200GB storage plan with her storage being completely separate from yours. See: Share an iCloud storage plan with your family - Apple Support

Having her own Apple ID would also allow her to use other services such as iCloud Photos and it would allow her to sync her two devices without impacting yours.

Thank you for your kind response.

Can you please clarify how I can ensure that having created a new Apple ID for her, she won’t lose all her existing data on both devices, when I disconnect her from my existing Apple ID.

I have been told I’ll need to create a dedicated Apple ID for her and then disconnect her from my Apple ID.

When asked whether to retain her existing data on either device, to say yes.

Then to merge the data on each device with her new Apple ID, ensuring nothing is lost.

Can anyone please confirm this is the correct sequence?

I am correct in assuming that I can also share my apps with her, despite her having her own unique Apple ID, right?

Thanks in advance.

When two people use the same AppleID for any Apple service, you are both using one and the same account for that Apple service. There is no mechanism at all to separate data or information when you share the same account. The only way to keep data separate is for each of you to use your own unique AppleID for every Apple service (icloud, FaceTime, iMessage, etc).

You can use family sharing to share purchased content and iCloud storage.

Yes, you can share your apps with her. That is a primary feature of Family Sharing. See: What types of content can I share with my family using purchase sharing? - Apple Support

I don't have any personal experience on discontinuing use of an Apple ID and switching to a new one. The following may help but I can't personally vouch for it: https://www.imore.com/how-change-apple-id-your-iphone-or-ipad
