Consumer reports has un-recommended the iPhone 4

Is this enough to make it not worth buying, any advice from people who already have it?

Believe me, they tried.

Thanks to the Streisand Effect (Google it if you haven't heard of it), the attempts to censor it became news themselves and only further brought attention to it.

I don't think it's going to be long before the whole "hold different", "it's only a software problem" and "buy our $1 bumper for $30 if you want the phone to work" blows up in Apple's face.

I suspect Apple is hard at work at a simple, user-installable hardware fix, like a partial bumper that somehow enhances the phone's slick appearance. Along the lines of the nose-pad in those 'fix your own glasses' kits they sell in thin plastic tubes at the supermarket. . . but Apple-Cool.
Why?
1. big problem that won't go away 2. Apple's limitless intellectual and design resources 3. sheer nightmare of a recall, from logistic and financial POVs.

probably that tinfoil hat you wear.

For the folks that DO have problems, (and there are a TON of folks with problems with this phone) there is not ONE who cares about your rant, or even that you claim your phone works fine!

If you are here to offer solutions, then by all means, start helping.

If your phone works, and you're not here to help, then go away. Trolls are not welcome on this forum!

I have had my iPhone 4 since day 1 and Consumer Reports completely validates my experience, and my wife's experience, with the iPhone 4 (and with our older iPhone 3G's).

We upgraded from iPhone 3G, and very seldom had the reception problems we've had, both calls and browsing, with the iP4.

I now have an Apple bumper on mine, and it has improved performance.

The iP4 has many great features, but I'd recommend waiting to get a new iPhone until Apple resolves this problem, unless you are lucky enough to live and travel always in areas and buildings with super ATT signal strength. For me, in Northern California, that is rare.

A real easy fix for this issue is to use Super Glue. Take the super glue and very carefully apply it to the spot where the 2 antennas meet. Cover about 1/2 inch area near the joint and you should be good to go. The super glue creates a non-conductive, transparent surface on the metallic band.

Lovely. Personally I'd rather wait for Apple to fix their hardware than to resort to putting super glue on my new $300 phone. Perhaps if this phone were 3 years old and I just needed it to last a little longer...

Honestly I think ppl like you are over exaggerating the issues. The iPhone 4 is a fantastic piece of engineering. It may not be perfect but it is closest to it. There is no other manufacturer that I know who goes through the troubles the Apple employees go through to get us the perfect devices. If you are so eager to return the phone then I would suggest go return it. If you don't like it don't buy it. With a 1.0 version of any product in the market there are going to be issues. If you dont know that then you are plain stupid. Do we all forget the WiFi issues with the Google Phone or the battery issues with the Droid?
