Playback is poor because iTunes library is too large?

I have almost 50,000 songs in my iTunes library. When I try and play a song, the playback quality has become very poor. The sound is choppy and has static. Is the size of the library causing this problem? Other than deleting songs from my library, is there anything I can do to restore the playback quality to what it was previously?

Insufficient RAM for iTunes iTunes is causing RAM issues. I have a very large library of music - 281GB and it was causing applications to run slow when iTunes was open. Trying to play songs has become an issue now too. I have to wait while the coloured ball spins before the song will start. I love my music and don't want to dump any of it. Is there some way to deal with this without losing my music? Can more RAM be allocated to iTunes?

MP3 files do not load to iTunes I have iTunes for many years. I have never had a problem before. Suddenly, iTunes stopped loading the files. I use 2 methods: File -> Add file to library -> (choose the file to load) OR Just drag and drop the MP3 file into iTunes library Neither method works! It does not give me any error messages. It just does not load. When I try to drag and drop, the blue box appears around the library screen. I rebooted the computer, but it still does not work. Please help! Thank you.

The size of the library shouldn’t have any impact on playback quality. Try increasing the priority to see if that helps.
