Use MOX8 as midi controller in Logic Pro X

ANSWER

After searching FOREVER I realized you need to download the latest Yamaha Steinberg Driver to communicate properly. Makes sense. I figured it was 2019. You just plug and play, right? Nope.

Heres the link:

After you have installed and you’ve restarted your ‘puter, create a new Software Instrument Track in Logic. Make sure you set your input and output to your liking in the audio preferences. Now you can finally enjoy the fruits of the plethora of patches in your DAW. Please hit me up if you have any questions. I can now discontinue my meds after all of these years...

I'm just starting out with a DAW (Reaper) and had a devil of a time just trying to get Omnisphere to show up in the 'virtual instruments tracks' list. (Turns out I had to copy/paste Omni's .dll in every Reaper folder that contained .dlls to get it to show up.)

So you're saying this driver will make the MOX8 show up in the list?

I was just thinking that it's a shame that in 2019 computers still are not smart enough to tell us what's wrong with them.:)

Here ya go:

"The MOX6/MOX8 EDITOR VST allows you to run the MOX as a VST Instrument within Cubase. What this really concerns is how the MIDI signal is going to be routed, and just where the audio signal, that is generated in response to that MIDI data, is going to go. This is useful for when you are doing your MIDI tracking in your computer sequencer and wish to monitor audio through the DAW mixer and its effects."

Followup:

The MOX8 sends audio AND midi to a DAW through USB. From this video link: htthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0oy6tngllE

at 6:24 he uses Cubase to separate the midi from audio, by going to Devices, then choosing a VST instrument to play it. Even though it's Cubase, there should be corresponding settings in your DAW.

Also, after almost pulling my hair out, I found another workaround. I bought a Babyface Pro to use with Cubase, but it's also Class Compliant with IOS, so you don't need any special drivers. Just using the mini-out of the MOX8 wasn't connecting with my ipad piano apps. Then I discovered this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gbv8OlcrhCw

You have to change USB to MIDI, then store the setting to make the midi-out work. I plugged the midi cable into my Babyface Pro, then plugged in my ipad, opened a piano app, and FINALLY have the MOX8 keyboard controlling the app's keyboard. Of course, another (less expensive) audio interface with midi inputs should also work, if they are IOS compliant.
