Hi am sure I did a backup of my iPhone X on my iMac but lately did a backup of my wife's iPad. Now when I tried to restore an old backup from iTunes I can see only the iPad backup. Does the iPad backup overwrite the iphone one ? how to get the iPhone backup back ?

Could you have backed up to iCloud as well? See Locate backups of your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support. Is there more than one subfolder inside the main backup folder?

Each device should backup independently. Do you have more than one user profile?

yes I have only one user profile on my iMac
