Remove unwanted updates from the Mac App Store updates page

Since Mojave, Apple removed the ability to hide any app update by right clicking on the pending update app, like so : https://9to5mac.com/2017/01/02/how-to-hide-and-show-mac-app-store-updates-video/.

There is therefore no official way to delete an app update. However, this will work :

To remove any unwanted update :

  • Make sure "Automatic Updates" are disabled in the App Store Preferences
  • Make sure "Check for updates" is disabled in the System Preferences
  • Send the app you don't want to update to the Trash
  • Open the Updates tab in the App Store. The update should have disappeared
  • Go to the Trash, right click on the App and select "Put Back"

Et voilà, the notification badge on the Mac App Store icon in the dock won't annoy you anymore !

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.14
