I have seen several posts about hp printers not responding to print commands. I found a thread on the HP support site that led me to a solution.

The printer was working just fine until last week when I needed to make a scan and fatally installed the HP software from the CD. I thought there must be some way to work with the software, so I updated and uninstalled and reinstalled in multiple ways. Got help from tech support from both Apple and HP. Nothing worked.

A comment about Snow Leopard on the HP site led me to believe that the software was indeed the problem. Hidden files that were not removed by the uninstall were causing the problem. Trashing them did not help.

I uninstalled the HP software but still got the error message. So I followed the advice to reinstall Snow Leopard to get rid of the remaining HP files.

It worked. I can print again. I didn't need to install the HP software at all. Many thanks to my mentor on the HP site.
