Disk Utility error: btn: invalid key order (1) oid 1313483 / oxid 0; missing 300gb of space

I'm missing about 300GB worth of space due to "hidden files".

So far I tried the following:

First Aid in recovery mode; I get the same error as above.
CMD+S Single user mode and using command: /sbin/fsck -fy
Rebooting into Safe Mode then restarting
Deleting timemachine and localsnapshots
Re-installing Mojave (not clean install)

Nothing works. I see a lot of other folks experiencing the same issue. I think it's ridiculous that Apple is not fixing this for the past 2 years.

I’m having the same issue. I have 345GB of “system” space. I have done all of the above and have the same issue. My first aid output is:

error: btn: invalid key order (1) lid 878051 / oxid 0

Snapshot is invalid.

The volume /dev/rdisk2s1 could not be verified completely.

Apple engineers told me that this as “normal.” The Apple tech told me that the best idea would be a clean install. That *****. Wish there was something else to do, but I’m running out of space on my internal SSD.

Yeah that's not normal and he's totally yanking you.

The only way to fix this for me was to back up my hard drive using carbon copy cloner then restoring my hard drive.
