I want to transfer games onto my new iPad but do not want to loose my current progress

That will depend on the game and how it stores its data.
If it stores it locally, it may be backed up, when you perform an iCloud or iTunes backup, and would be returned when you restore the backup.
If it stores it directly in iCloud through GameCenter, logging in to Game Center on the iPad would also restore the data to the game.
If it uses a login, and stores data on the game's server, it should return it when you log in to your account in the App on the new iPad.
