How do I use the balance in my account instead of charging my apple id

I loaded a gift card onto the iTunes account. But when I want to purchase a song, the payment goes to PayPal rather than using the balance loaded from the gift card. I do not want to use PayPal for the net few transactions, but want to use the balance of my account, and when the balance from the gift card is used go back to paypal
