Macbook keyboard makes symbols not letters

macbook keyboard randomly starts making symbols instead of letters. Not the input thing in system preferences and only happens randomly. This is a macbook with butterfly keyboard, ca 2016 model, have owned for two years. Is this a problem that Apple covers due to the many faults with the butterfly keyboard?

MacBook, OS X 10.11

First try resetting your notebook's SMC. If that doesn't resolve this issue, I suggest you make a Genius Bar appointment at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider to have them take a look and provide you with your options, including if this would be covered ... or not.
