So I got this I pad from a friend of mine he hasn't used it in forever. I reset it and everything but yet i'm stuck on software update 6.1.2 and every time I would try to click update and install it would just stay on the dame screen and not do anything. I would click home button and it would work like nothing happened.

You need to try and upgrade/update that iPad using iTunes on a computer connected to the Internet.
