iPhone Xs lightning earbud controls not working

I upgraded from a 6s to a Xs recently, so this is my first phone without a headphone jack. The controls on the apple lightning earbuds don't work. I searched for solutions, and found articles from 2016 saying that Apple promises a fix, but nothing else. Is this a known issue? Is this something that is supposed to be working now? I miss being able to control the volume, pause, repeat, and skip songs without touching my phone.

Hello,

All of the functions that you mentioned still should work. Check the charging port for lint or other debris. Also see this:

Use Apple headphones with your iPhone, iPad, and iPod

If your headphones don‘t work with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If no help, consider getting another pair of earbuds.

Good luck.
