Airplane Mode & International WiFi Calling

If an iPhone is in Airplane Mode while in a foreign country and a phone call is made via WiFi calling to a number that is in the foreign country, would there be a charge? I understand that as a rule phone calls to and from the US would not incur a charge. Thank you.

Depends on your plan, I guess.

I'm not 100% sure, but when it comes to locals calls, for example, I have 500 minutes of talk time on my plan, and if I enable an Airplane Mode and call via Wi-Fi, this call is using minutes from my plan.

So my guess is if your plan has an amount of minutes for international calls, then you won't be charged, but if no, you will be charged for like a regular international call according to your plan.

If you are calling using services like FaceTime Video or Audio, or a WhatsApp call or Telegram, then yeah, they will be free cause these calls are using data provided by Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi Calling is a feature that is provided by you carrier. You are still using the carrier's services but using a Wi-Fi network. So, these calls still do associate with your plan.
