iPHone text tones are all silent

My text tones on my XR have suddenly gone silent. The tones to indicate that my video doorbell has been activated have died also.

Text msgs are coming through, but they are not waking up the phone or sending a tone or a vibration at all. that is to say that if I open the phone, the banner notification is there. But there has been neither tone nor vibration to tell me to pick up the phone.

2 days ago I added a Watch V4 to my XR. The Watch is now mirroring the phone and reacting the same way. There is neither text tone nor vibration, but the text is there.
