Help please

I brought an iPad mini second hand from a cash converters store a few years ago and set it up as mine after roughly a year it randomly pops up with the find my iPhone lock and I haven't been able to use it since. I need to unlock it somehow so I can use it again otherwise it's useless and I may aswell throw it in the bin. It keeps telling me to activate my apple I'd which iv done hopefully but I need help
