Arris iPhone Doesn't work

I discovered that the Arris doesn't work with the iPhone. The reason is iOS requires a DTIM of "1", yet it appears the DTIM is defaulted to 3.

To fix this, log into the Arris, turn off "Total Control Wireless," and then go to the individual 2.4 and 5 Ghz wireless locations and change the DTIM of "3" to DTIM of "1".

I'm have worked making wireless routers (firmware, lots of 802.11 knowledge, etc.) for 12 years.

Almost everyone knows iOS requires a DTIM of "1".

And naturally, almost everyone has a DTIM of "1", so you take it to the apple store and it works, but not with your Arris router.

Hope this helps a bunch of people. Apple, in my view, should work with Arris to set their default DTIM to "1".

This is probably a problem across almost all iOS devices.

Perhaps it's hard to believe, but that's what I saw with my very own eyes. You haven't been very clear on your "hard to believe" note, so why don't you look through and find out what iOS needs? Here is a comment from "stack overflow':

For some environments the DTIM can be critical.

We use IPods (IOS 6) as Nurse Call Alerting devices, via push e-mail.

Apple was very aggressive about saving battery life when the changed from IOS 5 to 6.

Push mail being sent when DTIM set to lower value cause unreliable mail delivery.

By changing the DTIM setting on our wireless controller (AP manager) from 3 to 1, we improved mail delievery from 95% to 99%.

P.S. We initially changed the IPods to not "auto lock" which turns off battery saving, however battery life was reduced to 4 hours maximum, which was not acceptable.

Bottom line is for some deployments the DTIM is very important.

Here is Arris router:

NVG443B Version: 9.2.4h1d28

Under "advanced" this was set to 3, and I changed it to "1"

DTIM Interval: (3) --> (1)

Now all the iOS phones are working. Odd, eh?
