I am getting repeated messages from "official apple support", Mackeeper, Applecareprotection plan etc trying to get me to cleanup problems, malware etc.
Are any of these legit? This is on my MacBook air

Remember this: Apple will not call you (unless you asked them to while on a support ticket), so any calls/emails are a scam designed to part you of your money. Ignore/dismiss/delete.

No, they are not. They want your money. No one in the world would know what is on your computer.
you should not be getting ANY notification from Apple support. MacKeeper is not to be installed.

I think it was a scammer as they asked me to log into a website logmein*** (or something similar) at which point I chickened out!!

If you have a modem/router you are connecting to, it has a much better Firewall built in and there is no need to turn on yours. So, who did you speak to? Was it really Apple support or a scammer masquerading as Apple?
Tx for the quick responses, I did get someone online who did point out that my firewall was OFF so have rectified.
They also wanted me to login to another website - at which point I cut off the call!!
