I have subscribed to various calendars on my iPad but hey do not appear on my Mac when calendars are synced via icloud. Plenty of advice on web for subscriptions set up on Mac to be synced with iOS devices but not the other way round. Does anyone know a solution?

You have to use the same Apple ID & password with iCloud.

Yes, I do have the same and my only Apple ID on all my devices.
The problem is that the subscriptions when set up on my iPad were automatically saved to my ipad rather than icloud. On the Mac if necessary you can change subscriptions to icloud via “get info” but I cannot find a similar option or work around on the iPad.
When in the past I set up subscriptions on my Mac they actually were automatically on icloud.
