Apple Watch-radiation

Hi Guys,

I am interested in buying an Apple Watch series one but I am a little concerned about the radiation coming from it and my health. I understand that you can put it in aeroplane mode to prevent it from causing radiation but I would like to know how much radiation there is without aeroplane mode on and I am also wondering if it will affect our health and cause cancer and other bad side effects.

Thank you,

Apple Watch

There is no known risk from radiation emitted by Apple devices - or any other cellular device. First you have to fully understand “radiation” which for a cellular device is nothing to do with radioactivity and nuclear (ionizing) radiation. Radiation simply means something which “radiates from” so light radiates from a light bulb, heat radiates from a hot object, radio signals radiate from an antenna.

Apple publishes the radio emission levels from all its devices, start drilling down at Legal - RF Exposure - Apple and compare the measured levels with the statutory limits determined by the government wherever you live. I think you will find the RF emissions from Apple Watch are generally so far below permitted maximum that you don’t even need to worry about calculating the risks.
