Verification texts

Today I received multiple texts saying: ‘your Apple ID- identification code is ...’. I also got a phonecall from Apple for the identification code, but I don’t know why I get them. I didn’t do anything other than normal, I got them random. I don’t know what it means, it isn’t the first time that this happened, but I just want to know what it is.
