How to open .ged file on IMAC?

Apple text editor results are too messy - is there a spread sheet type app, preferably free, which I can use? Anything else?

Thanks.

A quick Google search found the following:

  1. Launch your family tree program and close any open genealogy files.
  2. In the top-left hand corner of your screen, click the File menu.
  3. Select either Open, Import or Import GEDCOM.
