Won't recognize Ipod nano

THIS is why I hate Apple. iTunes suddenly won't recognize my ipod nano (7th gen I believe) anymore. It's connected, reads as connected, iTunes opens, claims it doesn't recognize my ipod and basically it gets booted off - suddenly isn't connected. At all. If I don't open iTunes, it remains connected. :(

I have tried all of these steps, including a complete uninstall and reinstall of iTunes.

Thanks. I've done everything except a new cable and 2nd computer. Maybe the driver update will work.. I'll give it a shot.
