While in Maps select the "i" in the upper right and select Report an Issue. This will not be taken care of right away and can take months before you will see any updates. You also will not be contacted once it's done. Things like the incorrect naming of a school and the correct location of another school took around 5 months before the changes were made. Something like a new subdivision may take even longer.

The most creative way is the ability to provide feedback directly from Maps. While it takes a while as the other poster stated, I just wanted to provide additional information about how things get there. Used to be you could report it to Apple and/or TomTom, since they provided most of the mapping information to Apple.

From the Maps applications, tap on the (i) as instructed earlier. That opens Settings>from there, you can go to Report an Issue. Then, if you go to Add a Place, that gives you a section to Report a Missing place to Apple. I would use Other, and then you mark it on the map, you can add a photo(or skip it), then provide details for Apple to help locate the place and your description. Hope that helps.

I believe that a lot of it depends on when GIS information is reported to the groups that Apple uses for their mapping information. The jurisdiction the subdivision is in has to report the GIS change to a place like TomTom, and of course, a satellite image won't reflect until the next pass that is provided to the mapping services. Trust me, it is even slow updating mapping for public safety services.
