16:9 Photo Format!

After reading Lawrence's post, I did a little more reading myself, especially after you mentioned Android phones doing 16:9 format. If you read the information from Android phones, while they will take a 16:9 format photo, just like Lawrence said, it is a cropped photo and at a reduced MP. This is explained extensively on Android forums. So, to actually get a 16:9 format photo, you are losing resolution, and content in the photo. You can actually take a regular photo and crop it to the 16:9 size if you wish, which is also explained in the Android forums.

Let me explain the facts of life, or at least the facts of digital photography. All CDS camera sensors have an aspect ratio of 4x3, because that is a manufacturing limitation. To take a 16x9 photograph a camera must avoid using part of the digital sensor, so instead of a 12 MP image the resulting image would be lower resolution, specifically only 9 MP. (the math is a little complicated, but I'm sure you can work out how I arrived at that). In addition, the lens is round, so a 4x3 image only avoids using a small section of the lens; to take a real 16x9 image the camera would need to use an oval lens or a much lower resolution lens. Movies that are shot at 16x9 sometimes actually are shot with an oval lens.

If an Android phone meets your needs, then that is the phone that you should be using. One should use the device that best meets their needs.

Thanks for that additional information. I'm not a true photographer, so I wasn't quite aware of all of it, but it prompted me to do a little digging with your information and the OP's Android statement.

3.Party Apps are not that good because I cant start them directly from the lockscreen like the original App.

So now a few extra taps are the issue?

That perspective would have been helpful earlier in the conversation. Your original posting implied you did not realize 16:9 for photos was even available in 3rd party apps.

So please, I want the 16:9 Foto format!

Nothing about wanting it from the lock screen.
