I have recently updated to Mojave 10.14.5 on my MacBook Pro (2016). The "fn" key is now not recognized. I have turned on the option to show keyboard viewer in menu bar from system preferences and this feature does not highlight the "fn" key when pressed. How should I proceed to regain functionality to my "fn" key?

Well, one possibility is the key has failed or is dirty. You can check System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard - "Modifier Keys…" and make sure it's not disabled.
Suggestions (1), (2),(3), or (4) did not solve my problem. Are there additional options?
