Family Sharing and Use of Gift Cards

Our teenage sons loaded gift cards onto their own phones using their own apple IDs. After we give them permission through family sharing for in-app purchases, they are unable to select the iTunes gift card balance, and are directed to use the credit card on file. How can they use their iTunes gift card for in-app purchases through the family sharing plan?

Apple gift card on Family shared accounts Hello, I have 3 kids who recently got Ipad's and when I set their accounts I did it as Family sharing so I can control the purchases. Everything has been working well so far, but when they tried to upload Apple gift cards they are not able to select it as method of payment when they try to make a purchase. It asks them to verify a method of payment but hey are not able to select their apple account(which shows the money that was uploaded). It also asks them to contact their family organizer which is me and I have no idea how to fix this so that they can access the money on their apple account. Please help!

Using a gift card in family sharing I am the family organizer and have an iTunes gift card balance. However, when I approve my child’s purchase, it charges my credit card, not the gift card. How do I ensure it uses the balance first? I don’t want to put gift cards in my child’s account.
