How to avoid 'Move to Applications folder' prompt?

I downloaded the zip file of iterm, unzipped it and moved the iterm.app folder to /Applications from terminal. When I open the iterm file in applications, I still get the prompt to move it to Applications folder. Tried moving it to Users applications folder too. How do I avoid this prompt? I don't get the prompt when I drag the application to /Applications

The Applications folder is considered to be the default destination for new apps. Some new apps do not come with an installer so where the app goes is determined by the user. The programmer who prefers that the app belongs in the Applications folder or has written an app that will not run properly, otherwise, includes the alert. If you click on the OK button then the app moves itself to the desired destination folder. However, these moves are not always done very well. By which I mean you may have already put the app in your Applications folder but did not use a means detectable by the app. So you get an alert that seems to be meaningless in context. I find the easiest solution is to simply dismiss the alert, and put the app wherever you want it. I put some apps in the Utilities folder if that is where I want it located.

Question: why would you move an app via terminal? The normal install procedure is to a) drag the app into the Applications folder or b) use their installer to install it in the Applications folder. That is where apps should be installed and there is no need for terminal in the process.

So, can you explain with a bit more detail? What app? From app store or ??? What is the prompt/error message?
