What is isightcapture.exe?

I upgraded to Mojave yesterday. Today, this window popped up: " "isightcapture.exe" is not optimized for your mac and needs to be updated." That doesn't sound right. I've searched thru my Mac and on internet and don't find any reference to it. I've search my device for any ".exe" file ... and nothing comes back. What is this? Why am I getting this alert?

I believe that message is the 32 bit application warning and yes, it only appears once for each app that is affected after you install Mojave. It will not show up when you open it again.

The exe part is a bit more mysterious. macOS doesn't technically care one bit about file extensions. It determines the type of file by MIME information of the file itself. It can if present use the extension to override the MIME information to choose an app or mechanism to open the file with. If it has no information about an extension it will use the MIME data in the file to determine what App to associate it with or how to open it.

Its entirely possible that file is not actually a Windows executable, but just a mac App with a wrongly applied exe extension.

If iSightCapture opens and works then you know its not a windows executable. And the exe extension is just a mistake.

I suggest you use the program created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  It will provide a snapshot of your system which we can analyze to possibly determine the cause of your problem. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

I totally realize that ... that's why I was so surprised to see the alert box come up. I know .exe are Windows. Why would I get an alert that "this app" will not work on future versions of Mac OS and "needs to be updated" when it is referring to some type of Windows App that can't even run on my Mac ... that's why I'm asking how this could come up on my Mac. I should have grabbed a screenshot of it. Will do that if I get it again.

Positive it was .exe ... I'll get a screen shot of it if it comes up again. Adding to this strangeness ... if I do a spotlight search for ... isightcapture ... isight capture ... isight ... capture ... or .exe ... nothing comes back indicating an App on my drive.

This morning, I got the same alert for Adobe Application Manager ... and that is an App on my drive and I can contact Adobe to see if there is an update.

Thanks.

Thanks, Phil0124:

Adding to this strangeness is that I did a spotlight search for ... iSightCapture ... iSight Capture ... iSight ... Capture ... .exe ... and nothing came back indicating an App or anything by that name on my drive.

I'm just gonna move on from this. After installing Mojave on both my iMac and MacBook Pro, I'm sensing sluggishness, I get the spinning beach ball a lot (and it does eventually stop), and some other oddities. I ran Grand perspective on my drive and realized I have a lot of garbage and unused files and apps. Time to do some spring cleaning.

Thanks for your thoughts. If you think of anything else regarding that .exe file, I'd love to hear it.

I may do that ... but first I think I'll purchase the full program and play with it a bit. And if I do decide to post, would it be more appropriate to post it in a new thread rather than here? And when you say Post the Report, do you mean that text report that appears in the last icon?

I promise I'll learn as much as I can about EtreCheck before bothering you again.

Thanks for all your help and advice.
