Consumer Reports CONFIRMS existence of hardware related antenna problem

Apple you need to bite the bullet and recall these phones otherwise you're going to suffer tarnished brand image. Don't make this another iMac yellow tint problem and own up to your problems. I'm not upgrading my phone until this issue is confirmed fixed. I'm a long time Apple customer but this is unacceptable.

A lab has verified hardware related antenna issues. Read more: http://blogs.consumerreports.org/electronics/2010/07/apple-iphone-4-antenna-issu e-iphone4-problems-dropped-calls-lab-test-confirmed-problem-issues-signal-streng th-att-network-gsm.html

Believe what you like. The design IS defective. Period. Cover the gap with duct tape like CR did, problem goes away HARDWARE AND POOR DESIGN. Are you aware that there were antenna designers that publicly stated this new design was destined to fail PRIOR to the I4s release? But I guess there are still a few people that think the moon landing was faked. What can I say?

You need to try thinking out of the box a little...

Touching the iPhone 4 in "the spot" causes calls to drop, and signal to APPEAR to drop.

Is it beyond your comprehension that the firmware is responsible for a lot of stuff going on inside the iPhone? Is it beyond the realms of possibility that the firmware could be flawed in some way and therefore misrepresenting the actual signal to the rest of the iPhone subsystems in certain circumstances.

You touch the spot, the bars drop (a software function). You touch the spot, a call drops (a software function). You touch the spot and data stops (a software function). Shall I go on?

What does it means CONFIRMED ?! by what and in which network(s) ?

we live in Switzerland, altough the iPhone 4 is not officially available here, we drove quickly over to France and bought a couple of iPhones 4. We came back and tested them really hard... espescially we tested this reception issue and we have no issues here.

We use Swisscom in Switzerland, that's the largest Operator and there are no dropped calls, no signal loss, nothing ! We use to touch it around the antenna, we even touched it with our tongue ! nothing... it works, no issues here... now we tested it with the second largest operator Orange, no issues there either!

We think you have a problem with the operator, in Switzerland there are absolutely no signal issues and dropped calls, nothing! So think out of the box and try it out with another operator and you'll see it works.. no problem so far, never heard of one in Europe! probably the infrastructure of your operator is not state of the art anymore!

Because the exposed antenna IS the cause of the issue. This has been shown time and time again by different engineers. Are you kidding?

If you are so negative re iPh4, why are you still around? Do us all a favor and post elsewhere. Since I now have 4 iPh4s in family all working great, these rants are tad tiresome.

No, please don't go on. Just speak with the engineers who are experts in this issue because after all, like so many Apple Kool-Aid drinkers on this forum, YOU know better. Unreal. The issues was PREDICTED by antenna designers BEFORE the phone was released. They knew this was a HARDWARE issue. What part of that don't you understand.

And you continue to sit there and tell us that a) it's software and b) Apple's 'fix' in displaying those pretty bars will somehow cause calls to stop dropping and data flow from stopping? Yowser, what a wonderful world you live in.

Hey Phil, why don't YOU do posters who come here with ISSUES a favor and just leave? If you don't like what we're saying LEAVE. Let me spell that for you L-E-A-V-E. This is a forum for ISSUES. You want to post about your love for the phone? There are threads for that too. You Apple guys just want all this censored and only the love posts to get through. Utterly unreal.
