Pound Sterling Sign £

How do I type a UK pound sign £ on a MacBook Pro bought in the USA and therefore has a US keyboard?

Holding option + 3 does not work. It produces a # symbols.

Thank you.

That means you are probably using the British input source. So £ will be at Shift 3.

If you prefer to have it at Option 3, go to system preferences/keyboard/input sources and add US and remove British.
