I want to mirror my iPhone to a TV screen while using the Directv app. This will not work with an HDMI cable because Directv does not support Airplay. I was told that Appletv would solve this problem either directly or by using the mirror image option on the iPhone with Appletv. I haven't opened the Appletv package yet, so if neither of these will work, it's going back to the store.

The mobile DirecTV app is known to block the Lightning-to-HDMI adapter for mirroring, as well as regular AirPlay (mobile→Wi-Fi→Apple TV→TV). This is the same for other platforms with this service, or so I’m told.
However, DirecTV Now (the standalone streaming service) has its own app for tvOS, so regular users wouldn’t need to AirPlay at all, as well as recent integration with the Apple TV app.
It would be DirecTV who is blocking airplay and the same principal would apply for other platforms/protocols
Thanks for your reply, but Apple TV did not work with the DirectTV app. Apple TV uses a HDMI connection to the TV and as long as this is the connection you cannot mirror to a TV because DirectTV doesn't support Apple Play.
Thanks Urquhart1244, I believe you are correct on both points. You are also correct about DirectTV Now, which I have looked into and decided not to get. At the moment, I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of my iPhone and getting an Android.
You need an Apple TV to view content from the DirecTV app to your TV. Very simple to do and if you have the Apple TV it can do much much more than mirroring.
