iPhone sleep without locking?

Is there a way for the screen on my iPhone XR (iOS 12.3) to automatically go dark after, say, 3 or 5 minutes, but not lock? Like my MacBook Pro does? But still let me lock it when I want by pressing the right side button? It would save battery without the hassle of entering my passcode every time.

Starting with the iPhone turned on but "asleep" -- the screen is dark -- if I briefly touch the screen or the power button, the screen illuminates to show the "lock screen."
