Will apple remove activation lock from your phone if you just show them an invoice from the reseller that sold you the phone?

If you want to try, contact Apple ID Support. They will need to see the receipt/paperwork. Don't be surprised if they refuse to unlock the phone.
Apple Support by e-mail or chat Select your device, Battery, Power and Charging, then Power adapter not working to get a chat option.
Or fill out and submit this form.
All I can suggest is that you try contacting Apple ID Support. Don't be surprised if they refuse to unlock the phone, but given that the phone is unusable with the Activation Lock, you have no other choice.
Then you return it back to the seller for a refund because you will not be able to use it.
Activation lock is a theft deterrent feature, it cannot be bypassed and there's no workaround.
Only the original Apple receipt or from an Authorised Apple Service Provider.
But what if the receipt is not from apple? What if it's from a reseller that sold you a refurbished phone?
But apple said that you just need some sort of proof that you own the device and then they will unlock the phone for you. Is that not correct?
No it is not correct.
The proof of ownership must be for the original owner.
But I have a receipt from when I bought the phone from the reseller(NetworkStore). So is that not enough? Because I don't know the original owner!
